Our Story

Our family has been making sofas by hand in Derbyshire for 70 years and in 2020 we started Habbio with one goal: to make the UK’s most sustainable sofa.

Now, we’ve reinvented the way furniture is made so you can choose pieces you love that are comfortable, affordable and good for the planet. Because why shouldn’t a sofa have it all?

Furniture can be most harmful to the environment at the end of its life. 90% of furniture sold in the UK ends up discarded because it doesn’t last, or isn’t recyclable or biodegradable.

That’s why all Habbio furniture is 100% recyclable and because we believe it’s our responsibility to make sure our products do no harm. We can even collect your non-Habbio sofa and assess it for suitability for charity donation, re-purposing or recycling.

Everything that goes into our furniture is recycled, or sustainably sourced if a recycled alternative isn’t available. That means beautifully soft fabrics made from recycled bottles, recycled alternatives to foam fillings and wood that is certified as sustainably sourced.

We also use 90% fewer chemicals than other manufacturers – choosing natural, non-toxic and biodegradable alternatives wherever we can. (There’s more formaldehyde in a tomato than there is in our furniture!)

Every Habbio piece comes with a 15 year guarantee.

Our sofas also flex with your life. Add extra seats if you need more space. And add a new colour with out additional loose covers on select models. They’re here for a good time and a long time.

We’re committed to protecting the British manufacturing industry for the people and communities that rely on it.

Keeping our workshop in the UK also means we can look after our people properly – with safe conditions, pay that is at least 20% higher than the living wage and no zero hours contracts.

Habbio furniture is already seriously sustainable compared to others. But we can still do better.

We’re going to become completely circular in production, by using 100% recycled materials (we’re 85% at the minute), and creating no waste at all (down from 5% at present).

We’ll also become carbon neutral by 2030 at the latest. We’ll update the Habbio community with a yearly report on our progress.

All Habbio products are Vegan. Which means that no components or treatments have been made using ingrediants derived from animals, or in anyways which harms animals.

Our sustainable sofa range is the first fully certified Vegan furniture in the UK, through the Vegan Friendly certification.

Which means our products are not just better for you, our employees and the environment. They are also better for the health of animals as well.
